On May 9, the results of the 2023 American College Students Mathematical Modeling Competition were announced. Two teams of our university won the first prize (Meritorious Winner), 3 teams won the second prize (Honorable Mention), and 12 teams won the Successful Participant Award.
The 2023 American College Student Mathematical Modeling Competition was held from 6:00 a.m. on February 17 to 9:00 a.m. on February 21, Beijing time. Our university organized 18 teams with a total of 54 students participating. The School of Mathematics, Physics and Big Data carefully organized the preparations for this competition. As early as December 2022, it formulated relevant organization schemes, carried out a series of trainings on the competition instructor team, completed the on-campus selection of contestants, the establishment of five teams and the two-way selection of instructors, and made full use of the winter vacation to conduct 20-day online training and simulation competition guidance for the five teams.
It is reported that the American College Students Mathematical Modeling Competition is sponsored by the American Federation of Mathematics and Its Applications. It is the only international and most influential mathematical modeling competition in the world. The competition is divided into two types: MCM (Mathematical Contest In Modeling) and ICM (Interdisciplinary Contest In Modeling). The topics cover many fields such as economy, management, environment, resources, ecology, medicine, security, etc. A total of 20,758 teams from China, the United States, Britain, Canada and other countries participated in the competition.
