On November 7, 2020 Chongqing “Bayu Craftsman Cup” Vocational Skill Contest (English Speaking) for students from higher vocational institutions was held in our university. Sixty-four contestants from 51 higher institutions in Chongqing participated in the competition. After the fierce contest,Zhang Wentao, a student majoring in civil engineering from theSchool of Civil Engineering and Architecture, won the third prize in the undergraduate group of non-English majors.

The contest consisted of two parts—‘live description’ and ‘situational communication’. Every contestant drew lots for the first session and had 20 minutes to prepare. The contestants drew a sheet of questions containing a graph, table or advertisement that shows a certain situation and made an oral presentation based on the instructions given. The time for presentation was within 3 minutes. Then, one of the examiners would have a one-on-one on-site communication with the presenter for 3 minutes based on the content he/she picked.
